hey Do anybody here know how to over clock processor to get higher speeds. And i have read few articles on overclocking the GPU but none of them has worked for me so can somebody help me in here. I have dual core E2180 which is 2.0 Ghz (stock) and with stock heat sink and fan.Mercury motherboard with American megatrends bios. Thanks in advance.
It may cause problem. Do it on your own risk. follow the following steps: Step 1 Get whatever tools you need: screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, motherboard manual, cooling hardware, etc. Step 2 Find out whether your motherboard can be adjusted in the BIOS setup, with jumpers or not at all. Step 3 Find out clock-speed limitations of the motherboard. Step 4 Run all Windows and any third-party diagnostic applications you have. Fix all system problems. Step 5 Make a complete backup of your system, documents and applications you don't have on CD-ROM. Do not overwrite these copies. Step 6 If you have a BIOS-adjustable motherboard, make changes according to your motherboard manual, and skip to Step 15. Step 7 Shut down computer. Step 8 Leave computer plugged in to surge suppressor. Step 9 Disconnect all peripherals from computer. Step 10 Remove cover of chassis. Step 11 Ground yourself to computer with any professional grounding equipment you have. Otherwise, ground yourself by touching a metal part of the chassis. Step 12 If your motherboard has adjustable jumpers, locate the jumpers that control the CPU speed. Step 13 Use needle-nose pliers to change jumper settings. Move jumpers to positions indicated in your motherboard manual for the clock speed you want. Check the Internet for recommendations. Step 14 Install a CPU heat sink, heat-sink compound, and a specialty cooling fan, if appropriate and possible. Step 15 Put system back together, and reboot. Step 16 If computer does not boot, and CPU still works, try lowering the clock speed. If that doesn't work, restore the original configuration. Step 17 Check all functions, and run a CPU-intensive program.
For what reason? Isn't that dual core already fast, the real question is, would you actually see a performance boost? I recently had a x2 4400+ and oc it to 2.4GHz from a 2.2GHz and didn't see much of a difference in windows 7. Quick question, did you built your computer? If so check your motherboard manual, they always have the overclock feature. Good luck my friend. please don't fry that mobo!
You won't see a massive improvement by going on a 200mhz overclock, but if you did some benchmarks you'd obviously get a higher score. I had a 2.2ghz CPU that i clocked to 3.2ghz (Opteron 146) and that was a HELL OF A LOT faster. These days it's virtually impossible to fry a motherboard, with all it's safety features. Andy
As far as I know you can just adjust it via the BIOS which when you start your computer you should have to press a key to enter the BIOS than you can configure the options their.
IF you're BIOS is unlocked it is as simple as changing the multiplier, which is the safest option. Check your BIOS manual on the internet and look on Google for people with the same CPU or Mobo.
