I am working as hard as possible to out do my competition. I have much better SEO work done by examining their onpage seo and backlinks. How ever alot of them are over 10 years old and mine is barely one. Is there a way I can get past the age issue?

if you are working on the SEO of your website then they must also be working on it. continue with your work and keep an eye on your competitor so that you know what they are doing. they must be higher than you because they must be getting good amount of visitors for the words being targeted by them. try to incorporate more good keywords on your website.

If you are properly doing SEO with your site, you don't have to worry on how to beat them. Just wait and you'll see the results later on. :) Domain age doesn't weigh much when it comes to search engine rankings, just continue building quality links to your site, there could be some other reason why they rank higher than your site.

Keep on working on your SEO and I'm sure that one day you will out rank them if they aren't working on there SEO.

For a young SEO-ed site to out-do an old "not know nothing about SEO" mammoth there are only two options:
    1. Waiting for your site to become an old hairy mammoth too
    2. Building more (quality) links than your competitor

P.S. Fat chance your site is still in the sandbox. You should see some better results once you've renewed your domain.

Are you talking about google search engine?

If google, is your link building is dofollow?
Nofollow links will not get you anywhere in google.
So, try to concentrate more on dofollow links instead.
