Hi all, I would really appreciate any help you guys can give to my problem here. Background: I work for a medium sized bank that owns about 100 small community banks in the area, each with their own name and separate domains. Each small bank has the same type of services (mortgages, checking, savings, etc.) This is currently how the adwords account is set up: Everything is under 1 client. Each bank is given it's own campaign. Each campaign has the location set for the zip code of where that bank is located. In those campaigns the ad groups are the individual bank products for that bank. So if the campaign is Miami Bank & Trust, the ad groups are Miami-Checking, Miami-Refinance, Miami-Savings, etc. All of them just go straight to the respective bank's home page. I'm talking to our web team about landing pages soon. So I have a ton of different campaigns, and a ton of ad groups, and a ton of keywords - but they're all essentially the same except for the bank's name and domain name. Should I change it so bank products are the campaigns and banks are the ad groups? I'm basically looking for anyway to make things simpler. Not sure if this is a common problem or maybe I'm not searching the right terms because I haven't found much to help me yet. Thanks for any advice or links you can provide.
Wow! Sounds like you have your hands full... Just Wow! Is the web team just web designers or do they also know adwords? It can be very challenging when one person does the adwords and another does the web.. the best of all worlds is when the designers/webmasters are also excellent adwords folks. That certainly makes the task much easier. How much time do you have to get this thing up and running. To save money, it will be much better if you can get one bank set up and running and tweak it for a short period before bringing all the others in. That way you could make sure all is well before jumping in with both feet. Then it would be a breeze to duplicate the functional site. I am about to say a word.. and I will have an immediate heart attack if you say "Adwords what?" Because with the huge tasking you are about to go into you will need it... The word is... "Adwords Editor".. please say of course i use it daily... other wise you are in deep trouble. What you are taking on is just to time consuming to be done by hand. In regard to what to call what... I would make the banks each a campaign and let the products like Mortgages, checking, savings and etc become the ad groups.. but be sure to make the ad groups very tightly knit and well targeted... use lots of negative keywords and make sure you find all the key phrases that are relevant. That is why i think its important to run one bank for about 90 days to gether as many long tails as you can get. The best long tails come from running the live account. It is the actual key phrases that someone types in to find you. Each day you will need to go thru the actual list of typed keywords and change each of them from broad to exact. With the volume of stuff you will be working with you will need to automate as much as possible. Good luck, you have a huge responsibility on you... I will try to answer as many questions as I can for you. Adwords is my hobby I actually live and breath it and love it... after retiring from the USN with 33 years, all I do is fun stuff.. and if it ain't fun I dont' do it.. period... and programming and Adwords I love to do it...
James, you're awesome! I have adwords editor now and you're right, it's making things a ton easier. One thing I would love further explanation on is "That is why i think its important to run one bank for about 90 days to gether as many long tails as you can get. The best long tails come from running the live account. It is the actual key phrases that someone types in to find you. Each day you will need to go thru the actual list of typed keywords and change each of them from broad to exact. With the volume of stuff you will be working with you will need to automate as much as possible." Where exactly are these long tails being gathered at? In adwords or do you mean go to my google analytics and see what keywords people are using to find my sites? I can't seem to find these long tail keywords in adwords editor? Example: If i set up a campaign for Miami Bank and Trust, set up an ad group for Checking accounts for that campaign, then have relative/negative keywords for that group like you suggest - I get all that. So there's a place in adwords I can see what search terms people are using when they actually click my ads? And then once I know that term, I copy it and I make it an exact match keyword in that ad group? Hopefully I understood you correctly, but please let me know if I'm wrong. Thanks again!
Keywords that trigger your ad and lead to clicks. 1. Log in to adwords 2. Select a Campaign 3. Select an adgroup 4. Select date range = All Time 5. Click "See Search Terms" at top. 6. select all search terms. You are now looking at the actual key phrases typed in that got a click... Say you are selling Polka Dot Puppies. For example...you might see. (your key word)----(actual type in key word)----(Clicks you received) ****************************************************** (polka dot puppie)----(red speckled polka dot puppie)----(37) Wow... who would ever have thought that that many folks were actually looking for a red speckled polka dot puppie... and you just happen to have some.. Can you see your ad said polka dot puppie... and that is what was shown for the person who typed the long tail.. Now every day you research these and make that long tail an exact match and the next time someone types that phrase you will be the best choice for google and google will reward you with a lower cost since you matched the phrase exactly... Make sense..... I thought it would... Now lets take it one step further.. and see why negative keywords is so important. (your key word)----(actual type in key word)----(Clicks) ************************************************ (polka dot puppie)-----(any old polka dot cat)----(137) IF you don't sell any sort of cat would you like to pay for 137 clicks on a freaking cat... now you can see how to find some great negative keywords... add cat to negative and you will then never show for cat no matter what the search term. Hope this helps... I have seen darn near anything that can possible happen to you and have written many programs to scan your account and pull up tons of things that could be changed to improve the bottom line.... let me know if I can help.. its all free..as long as I am having fun.. my skype is jackrabbitsec if you wanta chat...and I will be happy to work with you daily on Skype as you run into problems..its all free. I love adwords and programming.
<Quote>4. Select date range = All Time</quote> Keep in mind the reason we select All Time here is so that we can see them all for the first time, in future looks, for example if you look and convert to Exact daily then you will only have to pull up yestedays terms. if you do it weekly then pull up weekly terms. Also be sure to sort them by clicks by clicking on the top of the column to sort the in click totals.. That way you can concentrate on the ones having the largest impact first... for example if you have 500 clicks on one and 2 clicks on another.. take care of the big stuff first also wait until each one gets a bunch of clicks before deciding.. Also for the big hitters you should identify those to write a full page in your site or even do some blogging on those items to attract more folks to those hot items.... I can see it now.... you latest blog "KiQue gets a tractor trailor load of "Red Speckled Puppies" hurry on over they are going like hot cakes... We also ordered a few Polka Dot Cats just in case...LOL.
i am not sure if i read James respond above, In 2 days I notice he types long and long so let skip until i have time to read. One question - Are you using MCC ? Multi client center ? if not you are missing the diamond for managing multiple clients. We face smiler issues having many (not many 46 ATM) clients but having a MCC account comes to rescue and then the organizing skill do the rest. That is to make account = > campaign => ad-group based on different stuff.
