How to Optimize Wordpress to accommodate HIGH Traffic without memory overload?

Every time if my site has a traffic spike it keeps crashing and the reason is either cpu usage, memory overload or exceeding bandwith. I was told by my host provider that I had too many plug ins on my wordpress so I removed them and the site was going good for a while but then another traffic spike happened and it crashed, so it basically prevented me from earning any revenue on my site for 10 hours. (customer service never responds fast enough so my site gets shut down for a long time)

Anyway I was told that you can tweak your wordpress to help it handle high traffic.

Does anyone have an easy instructional to do this for someone who isn't familiar? My friend helps handle my site so Ill just have him look at it.

    thanks

before using any plug ins you should read the terms very carefully and of course first test in offline mode. Without using any plug ins you can do it easily by using codes. Ready made codes are available in internet. Good luck.

    Thanks guys,

I have already the wp super cache and I took off the popularity plug-ins etc. that is what the hot server recommended for me. But the site crashed, I guess I had a lot of traffic on my VPS server, but I read some guys using the same server and having way more traffic than me but their wordpress never crashed.

Is there a way to fix my wordpress what could be causing the overload?

The 3 biggest culprits for a Wordpress installation to crash is using poorly coded plug ins or plug ins that use heavy resources, improper edits to a theme or Wordpress' core functions, and crappy hosting.

If you have already downsized the amount of plug ins that you are using ( and you aren't using a plug in that is hogging all of your resources) and you say that you are using a cache plug in and it's configured properly, then the next step is your hosting.

Maybe you need to upgrade to a dedicated server.

And don't tell me about what other people do and how much traffic their websites get. Their situation is not the exact same as yours.
If you are positive that there is nothing on your end that is causing the problem and your host cannot give you a direct answer to what is causing the problem, then switch to a larger, more reputable host with better tech support.

I have dealt with small hosing companies before that didn't have an answer and blamed everything on Wordpress and it's plug ins. If their servers are not capable of handling something as simple as a Wordpress installation, then you need to move. It's not new. Wordpress powers more than 18% of all websites on the entire web.

Sounds like you may want to look at upgrading your hosting if you are getting high amounts of traffic.

Thank you, I am using Hostgator and they never give me a good answer when my site is down I email them they answer back 10 hours later and say the site is up and it was never down...talk about horrible customer service :(

I was looking into Wordpress VIP hosting but almost fainted when I saw the price $2500 a month lol, I don't even make that much from my site in a month. I never knew big time websites like People Magazine and US magazine use Wordpress and VIP hosting, pretty cool, wordpress is the easiest to use afterall.

That's surprising because Hostgator is supposed to be a recommended Wordpress host. I work with all kinds of hosting companies and hear all kinds of excuses from hosts when it comes to Wordpress.

Some claim that it is too resource heavy and causes continuous resets, and others have no problem running Wordpress, never have any crashes and never use Wordpress as an excuse to why they keep having outages.

Bottom line is, some companies are just not good at hosting Wordpress sites, whether it be old equipment or unknowledgeable techs, they will blame the platform rather than their own service.

My advice to anyone who's host uses Wordpress as the excuse to why you are having problems is to get a new host. At this point in the game either they know what they are doing or they don't. Wordpress accounts for over 18% of all websites on the web. It's not out of the ordinary anymore or some new platform.
