No real experience with other languages but would assume it doesnt matter just need to keyword focus in German and try and find German sites for backlinks.

give it to someone who knows the language. If they're in Germany make sure the servers are in europe as Google looks at this.

Have a look at my blog, it is about multilingual websites and website localization. But ultimately you'll have to hire somebody who speaks German and knows about SEO. Depending on what you want, I might be able to do it, I am fluent in German though not at native level, even though I have a degree in German.

Yes it does, buddy! You'll never score for any keyword of the site if you search in English (because the site is in German), and you'll never score for German keywords unless you perform German-language SEO. And if an English visitor ever finds it, he'll leave it quickly enough because he won't understand the language. Check out for example my series of posts on language recognition by the search engines. Verstehst Du?

You're serious? Do you have the slightest idea about how accurate that is? And the errors that you can commit when you do not understand what you're writing? Google translator is fine if you want to find out what a page is a foreign language is about, but I would not risk my whole business (and SEO) using machine translation... Check out how well machine translation works, and then tell me if you're going to use it to promote your websites...

Yes, it matters... On-page SEO can only performed in the language of the page, and the backlinks should be also from pages in the same language. As pointed out in How to ensure language recognition by search engines, one of the methods used by Google to identify the language of a web page is the language of the pages providing incoming links. But the SEO techniques are indeed the same, you just need to know the site language...

Not very much difference in different language. Taget your keyword and start as usual and try to find out local searc engine, directory, articles sites and classified. So keep staritng and do hard work and research for it.

If he is fluent in German, yes. The fact that he might be able to perform SEO in French does not mean that he speaks German, much less that he is fluent in it. I also offer that kind of services, speak 8 languages (5 fluently), but only offer that kind of services in English and Spanish. And mind you, I have a degree in German, yet I do not usually offer this service for German websites. (Though at this very moment I am translating a German website into Spanish).

Agreed. provided all that work is performed in German (e.g., German keywords, German articles, german directories, etc.)..
