How to optimize a site that is in a foreign language?

I think it is called multilingual SEO. How do you optimize a site that's in a language i totally don even know a word about. How can I do the keyword research. Is plain translation from english to that language enough..?? Or do I have to follow other methods. ??

 

no plain translation is not enough because you need to understand the word's usage and culture of the people you are targeting. the only option is to get a translator who is fluent in speaking and writing of that language or forget that project.

If you can/know optimize for a "mono"lingual site, you can do it for ultilingual site, No?!!!!!

 

A non English site will always have a negative effect on search engines.These sites must be in English as to understand by the people.
The only option you have is to translate it in english.

but the site is catering only those people who speak that language. As in the locals.. So how does Google show search results for sites that are in chinese or french..?? you think Google doesn't show them in its results..?? I am really confused..

 

you shoud use the foreign language keywords to optimize the site, if possible, hire the related seo company do it for you.
