How to optimise a blog

Hi,
I just started a blog to promote affiliate products, I want to know some basic seo tips in order to optimise my blog on major search engines.I am not taking help of any seo professional, and trying to make everything myself for earning traffic to my blog.
Could anyone tell me best but the simple ways to do seo for a blog?

In fact, i am thinking to make a 50-50 partnership with a serious seo.

 

The off-page optimization is the key factor in success. On-page is important but more important is backlinks, relevant backlinks. So starts off-page optimization also. So you are the newbie. I want to mention off-page optimization includes directory submission, article submission, link-exchange, social bookmarking, etc.

Perhaps this post on tips for WordPress SEO will help. There are LOTS you can do to optimize a WordPress site, but the most important decision you will make IMO is the template you use. You want a theme that does NOT display the entire post on the home, category, archives, and tags pages. Instead you want a theme that supports custom excerpts. I would highly recommend NOT including the category or archive dates in the URLs of your posts. Instead use /%postname%/ as the permalinks for your posts. Pick your categories wisely and if possible limit your blog post to only one category. NOINDEX your archives and tags pages. yada yada yada.
