Since people on here are so persistent on starting threads titled "How to get traffic" on their sites, I thought I would start a post that informed people what to avoid instead. By the time I've finished typing this there will probably be another 10 how to get traffic threads, but this one can be potentially more useful. Things to Avoid 1) A poorly organized site is sure way to get visitors to quickly leave. 2) Choosing a bad color scheme for your site can be irritating to visitors, and even hurt their eyes, which will result in a quick exit. 3) Does your site look like it could be Spam? If you did not make at least a decent effort to make a respectable page, than visitors won't respect it. 4) Are you offering something New? If they've heard it once, they've heard it a 1000 times, and remember to give respect to your competitors, many of them are very smart, very organized, and very experienced. 5) Content, do you have a lot of it, is it valuable and does it vary? Having a landing page with a sign that says hello and then tells you to buy something, isn't going to sell anything. There are a lot more things to avoid, as I am sure, the following posts will show. And remember, this is a thread about what NOT to do. Enjoy.
Nice posting, I like it. Hope it will help people to build a better website and get traffic that will not leave quickly.
your post should be named "how not to lose your visitor" in search engine eyes your color scheme has nothing to do with whether you going to show up in search results or not
You know what atxsurf that's a good point. I was really basing the name off of the 1000's of "how to get traffic" threads that get posted every minute, but your right, I should of named it how not to lose your visitor. But I think the point will still get across.
