I was placed on the 3rd page of a google search how can I move myself up to the first page? I know you can get backlinks or links from other sites to boost your site up but is there any other ways to do this? Thanks
Quick answer: build links, and build a lot of it. I suggest you read up on SEOmoz's "search ranking factors" do a Google search for it.
Build as many backlinks as you can. If it from high PR website then it is good. According to SEOmoz's "search ranking factors" anchor text from external links is the #1 factor for good search engine ranking.
Backlinks with your keyword as the anchor will help you move up to the 1st page. If it isn't a highly competitive keyword you should be able to move to that first page in a short matter of time
Google SERPs ranking and google page rank is different. If you would like to improve your website ranking at particular keyword then you need to do lot of work for this keyword. Submit directory, article, forums and blogs for that keywords and you will get good search engine position as you get link popularity at that anchor text. Create group of keywords for some keywords and do submission for all at particular time period. You will get good ranking in few days or months.
Consider these: 1. Have you optimized your keywords? 2. Does your site/blog have enough quality backlinks (from content and one-way link type)?
LOL, that's funny. some people just don't get it, no matter how often it's explained. PageRank has A LOTto do with your rank on a SERP. It's the single most important off page factor. PageRank is calculated using a very complex algorithm that includes your inbound links, the popularity of those inbound links, and your out bound links. Your rank on a SERP includes factors such as PR, on page optimization (meta titles, internal link structure, etc), anchor text on your inbound links, and more.
lol though pagerank depends on some same factors but it does not mean rank on SERP is directly dependent on PR. it depends on similar factors. google has told this officially several times
No, PR does not depend on similar factors as your SERP placement. PR IS a factor in your SERP placement. In fact, it's the strongest off page factor. But it's only one factor of many. PR is how Google quantifies the strength of your backlinks. PR does not translate directly to placement on a SERP, as there are several factors involved. But it DOES have a lot to do with search results. Search results are determined by several factors, the most important of which being PR.
First of all, profanity is not tolerated here, nor does this discussion warrant it. if you can't have a civil discussion, then perhaps you should move on to things you know a little more about. Second of all, if you don't know that PR is a factor in how they rank pages in a SERP, then you've got no business at all giving people advice on how to rank better on SERPs. I can't believe I'm quoting wiki, but here's the universally recognized definition. Perhaps you should go research before spouting off about something you know little about. PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank[6]) and later Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google, in 1998. Shortly after, Page and Brin founded Google Inc., the company behind the Google search engine. While just one of many factors which determine the ranking of Google search results, PageRank continues to provide the basis for all of Google's web search tools. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank
For someone that thinks they know anything about google, you sure don't seem to know how to actually, you know, use it. "We've been telling people for a long time that they shouldn't focus on PageRank so much; ...We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it." Webmasters were focusing more on pagerank, and less on their content. They removed it so that you can't see the live Pagerank score they assign you. I blogged bout this a couple of weeks ago. http://www.adhocads.com/Google-Removes-PageRank-Indicator-in-Webmaster-Central.html If still exists, though. And you can still see the snapshot updated every 3 months from the toolbar. And it's *still* the biggest off-page factor in SERP ranking.
page rank is not updated 3 month, not anymore. there was delay over 4 month last time and before that every month. read your quote carefully. it says actually that toolbar pagerank does not mean so much.
Seriously, do you live under a rock? The toolbar has been updated, on average, every 3 months for the last 5 years. There have been times when it was much longer, and times when it was much faster. Here's a quote from Matt Cutts, about a year ago... And he was right, it's been updated every 3 or 4 months, right up until the last one, last week. So yes, the toolbar pagerank update still happens every 3 to 4 months. But the toolbar is not your live PageRank. PageRank is actually calculated CONTINUOUSLY. And since the toolbar is only updated every 3 months, that means that you could be seeing an old, out of date PageRank. SERP pages are being ranked by your LIVE PageRank as one of the main factors. I hope this helps get you on the right track. And you still owe an apology for your profanity and lack or professionalism.
And no, it doesn't. I'm beginning to understand why you are so mislead. It seems you misconstrue just about everything. The quote says that google doesn't want you to focus on it. They don't want you to obsess over PR to the point where it's more important for you to worry about than your content. And they're right. You ON-PAGE optimization should absolutly come first.
