From my above title itself its very clear that, I need to move my old wordpress database to new wordpress database using export and import available at wordpress dashborads. please suggest a method to upload a .xml backup copy of more than 4MB size. I have installed wordpress, plugins and other necessary things from my old wordpress to new wordpress, only probelm is with the contents. I'm not able to setup my old contents on new contents area. my old domain was www.freeteplates4u.co.cc/wordpress and my new domain is www.sagarrai.com/wordpress any help would be appreciated. thank in advance with regards sagar Admin
Don't use xml backup. As i know, all pictures on old wordpress will be used on new wordpress. so, if your old wp no longer available, you will lose all pictures on new wordpress. so, its better using backup files and database and move to new hosting.
here how to move your wp site 1. download your old wp files and database. I dunno the path of your wp files, may be in /public_html/wordpress 2. upload old files in your new hosting. You don't need to setup wp. Just upload your files. I think here you should upload sagarrai.com/wordpress/ 3. Create user and database name, and then upload your database file. 4. Back to your wp files on new hosting. Edit wp-config.php. Change database name, user database and password database. Save and done.
I got your point but where exactly on which folder to upload my .sql file. Yes my wordpress path is public_html/wordpress....
Your .sql file can be found on your PhpMyAdmin. If still not found, check CPANEL >> MySQLDatabase >> PhpMyAdmin. This location is depend on your hosting. To download .sql database, go to PhpMyAdmin>. Import >> Save to your local computer.
a small disaster happened to my old wordpress blog. after following these above steps, i was just uploading .sql to new host, but unfortunately my old site doesn't load anything. it doesn't show up any content. i'm just confused whats the matter. please check freetemplates4u.co.cc/wordpress and advice me how to regain my articles,. all other tings are working fine. only problem with contents.
You don't download and upload database like you would do in files. Instead, you use PhpMyAdmin to "Export" the database by clicking on the Export tab. You can then save it to your computer as filename.sql (be sure you checked SQL and 'save file as'). To upload it, open the new database using also the PhpMyAdmin, click on the "Import tab". Then click browse. Then choose the SQL database that you saved in your computer. Then click go. Note that PHPMyAdmin might differ from one hosting to another, the buttons I mentioned here might look different. In some hosting, you are required to enter username and password to access the PhpMyAdmin.
Buddy thanks for answering this thread. But unfortunately I had to begin with new wordpress site www.sagarrai.com All my work went closed due to IMPORT malfunction. I tried tried but my new database couldnt accept the old .sql file. So finally I quit it and started with new site. So please have a look and can anyone help me to redesign it further. Suggestions are always welcomed.
