Sorry if the title is slightly vague but I was not sure how to word it. But here is what I am trying to do and need advice. I have a site at http://www.journeyoftheanimals.com and it use Joomla 1.15 or something like that. I have installed Joomla 1.5 in another directory to try to get it all setup and everything moved over. Everything seems to be OK for the most part and I am just about ready to change over to 1.5 . However I am unsure how to do this. If I go into the root directory of my site and delete all the Joomla files and folders and then move everything from the test directory will it work? Let me try to word it just slightly different incase I am making no sense in my half asleep state. I have joomla 1.15 installed at www.journeyoftheanimals.com in the root directory. I also have Joomla 1.5 installed in a test directory inside my root directory. I want to move the 1.5 installation from the test directory to the root directory and get rid of the 1.15 installation. Can I just delete all the Joomla related files and folders from the root directory and move all the files from the test directory to the root directory and have everything up and running? Or is there more I need to do? Thank you for your time and input.
The answers is yes you can, assuming that you don't have any HARD CODED configuration that points to a specific directory. Safe way to do it is to use Joomlapack. 1) Install Joomlapack your live site and test site 2) Create a backup of both (just to be safe) 3) Keep a local copy of both live and test site (again just to be safe) 4) Then install the package you created from the test site in the root directory
Install JOOMLAPACK [extensions.joomla.org/extensions/1606/details] And take a dynamic backup. Its the whole quick installer for the site. So,you dont need to again goto database for its backup... Just take the JoomlaPack backup and then upload it to the new folder.. Unzip it there via cPanel File Manager and then open the URL on browser. It will guide you up.. Its direct
