    Hi friends,

    I've the site: http://www.dev-the-web.com
It's visited by 500-1000 unique visitor by day, but very little of them post messages to the site.
I enabled anonymous posting, also allowing self promotions (ex. I'm developing my site www.example.com), but all of this is not enough.

I'll be very thankful to hear another suggestion how to motivate people to post messages.

Thanks in advanced for all replies :)

You can launch contest with great prizes to attract them posting on your site.Let's say a free ebook for the one who can make a hundred post in five days.

Provocative posts always encourage participation. Get your visitors hearts pumping a little! I've just looked at your site and you could definitely ask a more emotive and provocative question. I'm no programmer, so don't know too much about all this, but stuff like 'Do you think Java is dead?' might get a better reaction.

    Hi
The best part is to promote. While promoting you can have gr8 offerings like polls, quiz etc. One should always remember "to get something u have to lose something." Therefore, in the beginning it might not result as you desire but later it may improve. Make them be an active member of your website.

    njoy!:)

    Hey

I think contests are one of the best things. They have to have a reason to post, a contest is the best way to get them to. I don't mean win an iphone maybe just a few bucks or something small people will still have a go.

I tried the contest on one of my sites and it really didnt work. The thing that worked the best was having my employees post questions and me answer/visa-versa. Also limit your forum groups. Let a small number of groups start to get more posts then slowly add more. People just dont post to an empty forum.

I did see a guy that was paying one person a day $7. He would randomly pick from everyone that posted the day before and paypal the winner. He was getting around 10-13 posters after a few days.

I'm running out of time so I can't provide links but I know http://problogger.net has posted on this topic a few times. Things like doing top 10 lists and offering additional suggestions, asking for comments and the like.
