I guess this is just a great general question so if you have advice on the topic generally please share. My case study on the topic is as follows: One of the forums we manage gets a crap load of traffic for a few threads that have something in them people are googling then arriving at our forum. The problem is that it's a few threads posted in general chat so the traffic is not interested in our monetized content and has noting to offer the forum community. Initially I have moved the threads in question into our members only section, but because the threads are indexed the traffic just keeps banging away at vBulletin's 'error - no permission to view' page. So how do you make money out of unwanted traffic?
I never concidered traffic to ever be unwanted You could possibly put a redirect tag there and send them off somewhere such as your main site where they could run into ads. One example of a refresh tag is something like <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10;URL=http:www."your site ">
and sometimes closing a page in thier faces will make them register, you can redirect them as Gig-Guru said, it's your trap so you can put whatever u see will fit your needs .
