For directory owners. When I submit my website to directory on thank you page there is in some case AdSense and in some cases nothing, well as we know webmasters don't click on AdSense, put something else there (webmasters related) like link to SEO application or similar, commisions on software are high.
Ok, we can say that they don't click that much. Some of use have that expirience http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=46775
LOL, Minstrel I just said exactly the same thing on the other thread this chap or chappes wrote. The Orange Pages does very nicely thanks. I love people who come out with this Crap, it makes even me look intelligent. Happy new Year!
hehehe partly true as for me , i can easily identify within a site which is a real link or not...or better i dont click ads most of the time.. but 1% i guess hehee
Yes webmasters dont click on their own ads. But what is wrong if one clicks in ads of other website which is really interesting to him and he want to take a look at the website. In my opinion he will click on that...
Well, I cannot speak for the rest of the world but our webmaster sites have a much lower CTR than our non-webmaster sites.
And my webmaster category has lower traffic than most of the rest, despite what I feel is decent content... I always wondered about this myself, do webmasters just not want or need anything else? uhm... I think it has a bit to do with some holier-than-thou thing but also I think the CTR factor has to do with the fact webmasters KNOW a paid link when they see one, and as for me I am less inclined to click on a sponsored link than a free one, for we ALL know what's coming at the other end. As for advertising, I usually put no advertising on pages that don't do well, more often than not I let low-traffic pages run ad-free... I even have one or two pages that do exxxtremely well without ads but stick ONE paid link in there and down the tubes they go... It's just weird, but I only put (and then leave) ads on the pages that survive despite the paid link (mostly regardless of actual traffic thou it really is nice when a hi-traffic page does well with paid ads). I could be wrong, it's just my 0.0000002
I think it's a fair call. Generally webmasters don't click links. I dont mean they dont click them at all, but rarely compared with users. I wouldn't put adsense on a submit page, pick something webmaster targetted.
As a webmaster, I tend to click on the link which is important to me and not on any randomly generated Google Adsense. But then, I can only talk about myself, we cannot generalize and make it as a rule. I am sure, I represent a large section of the link. Henece, I agree with 'Masetek', pick something that webmasters will be interested.
I have created a directory today and i was thinking about this, but hey i can put an ADSENSE REFERAL. Webmasters would click on that?
Why not? I have both AdSense (top) and the referral banner (bottom) on my directory pages: http://directory.psychlinks.ca
I'll click on a link if it really seems interesting to me, but most of the time I don't. I tend to think theme based websites would do better with CTR than webmaster type sites in general.
I click on ads on websites when they interest me no matter what the site is about. I have often spotted ads on webmaster forums that interested me enough to click on them, and personally I'm probably more likely to click an ad on either a webmaster site or a psychology site than any other.
Me too. I agree that webmasters are not the kind of folks who can get "tricked" into clicking your google ads. But when an ad is shown that might peak their interest they may click.
hey minstrel! i started using phplinkd yesterday, pretty cool eh you got any cool advice or theme? I haven't change anything I want to put adsense, but not yet.. Another question, have you submitted a link by your self ? is it legal well how dumb.. is it allowed?
It is a nice directory - the current release has a few buggy bits still but they are close to releasing version 3, expected probably this month, which I think will address most of those and add some nice features. For customization, ther main files to edit are all in the \templates folder: footer.tpl header.tpl top_bar.tpl Pretty much everything else is done in your Admin control panel, I believe. Until version three is released, I'd recommend: 1. don't enable visual confirmation (captcha) - the current version sucks and it has been improved in version 3 2. don't enable the mod_rewrite option (I don't recommend it anyway and IIRC there are some reported bugs) 3. read through the posts in the support forum at http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/forum/
I'm going to put the directory in a index.html, im going to use frames, im using photoshop to design the rest.
