How to measure competition ?

    Hello,

I was testing Market Samurai and I really like it.
But I have to say, I am wrestling with the SEO Competition tool.

There are so many different info streams, like
    - Domain Age
    - PR
    - IC
    - BLP
    - BLD
    - etc.

of course, you can find a description that says what it stands for.

But what I am missing is the fact that I don't know how I can actually measure them ?

I mean, something like weighting ?
For an example, if I could say that the Domain Age has much more value in the competition fields than the IC, or the BLP - then I could generate a "grid" or somethign like that to "weight".

And after that I could understand much better the strength of the competition !

    - How do you usually proceed exploring the competition ?
    - And based on which values do you know it's a weak or strong competition ?
    - What are your highest priority values - the ones, that count the most and do have the biggest impact or weight ?
    - Any good resource, link, tutorial, video, book, etc. that shows step by step that process.. identifying if the competition is strong or weak ?

What are your thoughts about this ?

Thank you so much for every little info,
    highly appreciated,
    bernhard

My first question is what type of web property (if any) are you planning to use? I use different parameters if my content is placed on 3rd party authority sites (youtube, hub pages, etc.) and my own sites. I also take into consideration if I'm using organic or paid traffic. Can you provide more details on your intentions?

Hello and thank you very much for your post.

Not sure what you mean exactly with "web property" - but I intend to use a website with good content.
I strongly believe in strong visual content, so in my case, I like to have lots of images and videos to present my content, besides text of course.

I want to drive the traffic organic only, so non-paid.

    @Intention:
I want to focus on a digital niche market. And within that niche market I want to know how strong the competition is. The competition for the google ranking #1.

I want to know who else is out there, competing with the ranking, and what it would take to beat them.
In order to do that, I need to know how I can measure the strength of my competition in that specific niche.

    What you think ?
