You can start by writing some great content on your site. Write enough of it so that the people who show up have more to read than 3 articles. Build your presence first, then start selling once you have people's trust. Again, the better your content is the easier it will be for you to market your site. Do guest posts on other blogs as well to get your name out there. Whenever you do this you might want to create a welcome page with your most popular/relevant posts for the newcomers to read over. Start building a social media presence with twitter. Just put a widget on your blog and tweet about things that interest you and your followers. SEO is another thing that you can begin learning about as well. There is a book called SEO in an hour a day. Check it out on Amazon. SEOMOZ is a great software solution that is used by the likes of Ebay and other online powerhouses, but the monthly fees can hurt a bit. As a counterpoint to the whole SEO deal, you have Ramit Sethi who has a really big following and he focused on building a brand via offline media and writing killer onsite content. Just Google him when you have the time. You can try the Web 2.0 properties like Squidoo and Hubpages. With the advent of G+ the Google page 1 "top tens" will probably become more and more merit based via user votes. So again, great original content will be important for you to use.
