What would you recommend apart from cb? Amazon? paydotcom? etc

Sure, they will do as well as CJ and a whole bunch of others.

I would first find a niche, find out what people really want. Do your keyword research etc. Do this first, and then look around for the best affiliate program. You might find a great product that does not belong to the more well known places like CB, CJ, Linkshare etc. In fact, you might find a product that has its own internal program that pays great commissions.;)

Good advice. I will add that you should pitch the product to the right audience. Don't assume that one product will convert better then another. Test, test, test!

Thanks a lot for your answer. I realised as I read that I think of a provider and then a nich and a product, but you go the other direction: niche - product - provider. Makes sense actually! It doesn't matter where the product comes from as long as it feeds the hungry! Thanks again, great advice!
