How to market a subscription website?

    Hello DPer's,
I've just bought a subscription based site and clueless on how to market it. It's not like a normal blog/forum with accessable content. It has a tour that shows everything that is provided. It's not setup for link exchanges. The niche (finance) is very expensive to buy good advertising.
The site already has a Myspace and Facebook Profile.

Some directories do not like subscription based sites. I think Social Bookmarking is to general.

The only ways I see are article submissions, paid links/banners,paid/non paid blog posts. Oh yeah the subscription is cheap at $4.95 a month with the first 30 days free.

Anyone have any experience with subscription based sites?

    Thanks

Small world. For a possibly better conversion rate, I'm changing my e-book site into a "digital membership club." A.K.A., "subscription website."

I don't use the word "subscription" as this may turn some off, since they do not like subscriptions. It may get them thinking about magazines.

Marketing, advertising such a site is like marketing, advertising any other product out there.

You have to get good ads out there.

Free methods do not work, if you want a lot of consistent traffic.

That, in a nutshell, is it.

    What is your url?

i run several sub based sites and i market to the people looking for what i have. it is harder to promote but if you have content worth paying for every month you can keep a good member base.
but you have to keep your sites updated.

i also sell a very very good membership script for sites that allows paypal and clickbank as well as many other payment processors.

the best way is prolly adwords, but you will want to fine tune your traffic for best conversions

The content is updated literally 24/7. It uses Paypal for payments at this time.
Adwords would be good but costly until it was tweaked just right. Don't have those kind of funds right now to tweak it. Need something cheaper to start with then use Adwords once the revenue starts coming in.
