I have installed some blogs on sub-domains ( mydomain.com/fishing-blog ) of a site to add extra contents for the niche fields it deals with way back in June - 2007!

Although - I blogged heavily (added contents) on them in the beginning - I totally stopped looking after them till few days back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I see that word-press has become very advanced with lots of improved features.

My problem is - I installed them with Fantastico and now my host replaced it with Softaculous. So no - auto- update option is available.

So if somebody please give me tips - step by step on how to manually update the sites - I'll be highly obliged.

    Thanks in advance --
    John

You probably can't. At least not without making some changes and updates to other things. First of all, your theme is probably not compatible with 3.0 and above. Don't even get me started on your plug ins.

2.3 was a LONG time ago dude.

But as far as manually updating. You just need FTP access to your files and you can follow the same steps as listed here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended#Upgrading_from_Version_2.7.x_to_3.3.1
I HIGHLY recommend that you back EVERYTHING up. Database, wp-content folder. WordPress 2.3.1. EVERYTHING.
Odds are, it's going to break your old theme.

DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE STRAIGHT FROM 2.3.1 TO 3.3.1.
You could set off a cataclysmic chain reaction that switches the Earth's poles, causing massive flooding of all coastal areas, wide spread earthquakes, flash tsunamis, and open a black hole into a dimension where zombies walk among the living.
    Seriously. Back everything up.

    Hello,

I would say first back up , 2nd back up, third back up your files and your database.

then try to upgrade all your plugins within WP one after one.

and see how that will work.
