I wanted to know how one should go about managing large email campaigns for clients?

I came across a thread a few months ago at DP about sending email messages to a few million users for a large client. I cant find it now. I dont even remember who started the thread.

Please share your tips on What kind of mail servers should be used? What software should be used to send huge amount of mails and manage the entire campaign? How often should the emails be sent?

Any other help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Depending on the speeds you want to achive I'd use a custom mailling script
    or some tuned qmail servers.

As in you want to offer a service where clients can manage their own email campaigns through you, or as in you want to actually run the campaign for them (putting together their newsletters, managing their subscriber list, doing the mailings, etc.)?

We're already doing an email campaign for Dublin Events website. Creating newsletters, managing the subscriber list, sending newsletters to the subscribers etc. But there are a few clients who want large email campaigns for them. Sort of like an email blast, like sending emails to millions of email IDs at a time. What should be the best approach for that?

I'd use a service, as long as it's not spam or a bought/rented list (some services don't allow you to use them). For that large quantity, you'll definitely want to check with your host... my guess would be they have a limit either on totals, or on how many can be sent at one time.
