    Hi guys,

I'm not sure whether this is an appropriate place to post my question.

I wish to learn more on how to manage/handle webhosting master reseller and dedicated server.

I have no idea on where to start. But hoping to get some guide & clue to start.

    *Appreciate it alot. :p

This is too vague of a question. Im not able to give you a good answer as I dont have time to write a whole book on the subject.

What I can give you for a tip is to search in google and read all you can find.

Maybe you will want to give more information for eg whether Linux or Windows and better still, what distro of Linux. What is the controlpanel etc?

Well, currently for my webhosting, im not sure what distro im using.. but i just know that im using cpanel. But i don know to master my webhosting master reseller rights & function.

For the server, currently are using Windows Server 2003. My friend are handling it, cause we are doing socks5 & webui service. So basically i login just to create account for users.

We are going to have our 2nd server to run linux os(my fren yet to decide what OS to get)

The Control Panel.. what is that about?

    cPanel/WHM is a control panel.
    Webmin is another one
    ISPconfig is another one
    Plesk is another one also.

Windows wise the controlpanels are more or less limited in choice

    Hosting Controller
    Helm
    Plesk
    Dotnetpanel

    Being the more common ones.

For Linux OS, if you have not decided, I would recommend Centos 5.2 as it is the Enterprise version of linux distro. I guess your friend would be able to decide on the controlpanel, there are too many in Linux, more popular ones are

    Cpanel
    Directadmin
    Plesk

Your friend should be able to decide, get the one which he is most familiar with.

Well if your going to run a server i would suggest purchasing a dedicated managed server over an unmanaged server. That what you have a support team to assist you with support and install issues. My office has a box with Server Intellect and it came setup with a CP/email/dns from the get go. We can add new domains and they will be live in like 3 minutes. Makes life simple, plus I can play around with it and if I mess it up I can call them to fix it :D heh

Using virts or freebsd jails you might not have to choose, also, most of these outfits offer a free demo so you can test things for yourself. I've done so and could help out possibly.

when you are using reseller account, you just need to learn how to use control panel. However, if you want to manage dedicated server, you should learn about the OS first. I see many people purchase unmanaged dedicated servers, just with control panel, then ended up with trouble, and have to hire someone to fix errors for them. Or their servers are simply not secured at all. You don't want to put customers on that kind of servers, do you?

What I am saying is that using virtual machines or machine emulation, you do not have to decide which panel you want, you can run them all. Also, since most control panels offer demos, you can demo them all at once before deciding, or run one production and demo the rest, or etc..
Good luck learning administration, and have fun! :)

If the servers are running on similar OS, it is just a matter of exporting the SSL cert and importing into your server. But you will need a dedicated IP for each SSL cert.

I think if they are the same Apache version that should be no problem.
