How to make your site Panda proof

    Hi Guys,

I have encountered a problem which many of you might have encountered aswell, all of a sudden one of my websites has dropped in the serps for all of its keywords, i used to rank #6 for the main keyword and now the sites been pushed back onto the 4th page. After doing an indepth report i can confirm that it is nothing to do with the off page part of seo, i.e ive got a wide variation of anchor text in my links (40+ variations) my main percentage of links are my brand, there is natural language in links plus my competitors links are not as good as mine. So i can rule out the off page stuff, this leaves me to believe that the site has been hit by panda.

Now when looking at the site, it has about 30 pages talking about different things in the niche, the outer shell of the homepage template is used on all pages and the main content body changes from page to page as the topics change. Im thinking that this is what have caused the site to be hit, the same style template for each page and the text being the only markable thing that changes. Do you think that this is the case ?

From reading up i have came up with the conclusion that the following may help me improve my 'panda score' and once corrected i could regain rankings, as panda is not a memory penalty, it does fresh updates and scores and once the site is panda friendly it should regain previous rankings, (or go higher if competitors are hit by panda). Here is the list, feel free to add to it if you have had a positive result from implementing it :-

    - Should have several 'templates' for different pages so they dont all look the same
    - Include pictures/images a lot more to accompany pages/articles
    - Site should be interactive - include comment boxes, a forum perhaps
    - Possibly contain a media clip or video
    - Have social aspects on site
    - Create more pages to beef up site

Thats all i can think of at the moment, i think the overall result from implementing these on the site will improve the usage metrics that google now monitor, therefore increasing panda score ?

Thats my take on things so far, please feel free to comment on this thread wit ideas or if you have done something that has got you out of panda then feel free to share.

    Best regards

i like the word panda proof , i think there is no perfect plan just need to adjust to the traffic as well as creating quality content and updating it regularly ,
i myself own many site that make a living form Adsense , seriously i don't see much changes before some of my PR 1 site had now become PR2- and PR3 ,
SEO is not a Superman Pill , which many wish to believe that all there need to do is get one service and there will remain on the top forever . many factor can make a page drop .

    -----------------------------------------------
At the end of the days . Content is King . backlinking is the Knight that support the king .

    Hey Tom,

Thanks for your post. I am one of those who, just like yourself, see the same effect. Started on the first page, and ended up on the 4th or further down the hill. The problem is that nobody has yet been able to pinpoint what happened, or how we can reverse the effect and return to the top. Most of them simply say the same things over and over again... and they all end up stating that we should make the site for the visitors and not the search engines. But what if we did make our sites for the visitors in the first place. Let's look at your recommendations:

    - Should have several 'templates' for different pages so they dont all look the same

Interesting... Maybe it's not the "look the same" - maybe it's more about the fact that they "read the same". Like you said, it's all different pages under the same "outer shell" and that "outer shell" consists of text and code... text and code that is the same throughout the site - could this be considered duplicate content? Maybe... But how many sites have different shells throughout? Why weren't ALL sites affected?

    - Include pictures/images a lot more to accompany pages/articles

I agree. I am in the process of adding more visuals to all the content pages. I already had 1 or 2 pictures in every article, but maybe I need more.

    - Site should be interactive - include comment boxes, a forum perhaps

Comment boxes yes - but 99% of sites have them. As for forums, I don't think that Google expects every site to have a forum... Do you?

    - Possibly contain a media clip or video

That COULD help - I just posted a video on all my sites so we'll see.

    - Have social aspects on site

Every one of my sites has a Facebook page, a Twitter profile, and they are all linked and displayed on the sites.

    - Create more pages to beef up site

Are you saying that sites with less than a certain amount of pages will get penalized?

Here is an example that goes against all the above. I have a WP site with 15+ articles, and about 25 pages. Each article has pictures, and a comment box, and many of the articles have gotten comments. The site has links to its FB page, Twitter profile, and a Google +1 button. All content is obviously unique and of a certain quality. The site was ranking 1st for its keyword for over 6 months. It was the only blog within the top 10. In July, it got it and went down to the 6th page. Today, it's in the 100s. The rest of the sites in the top 10 are still there... As far as I can tell, they all just went +1. At that moment, a site with 15 pages and thin content (not a lot of text and no images/videos) was at the 9th spot. Today that site is 3rd. Your thoughts?

I also like the word Panda Proof. I think the best way is to keep implementing basic, solid SEO. Keep writing quality content, etc.

If we had the answer to keeping our site's Panda proof, we'd all be ranking number 1 for all the keywords we want, lol.

I dont think so that using a same template could cause you hit by panda, as bots are more concern about text though the page segmentation is a part of their algorithm but still it has nothing to do with the template design. Bots sees web pages in a text only format not the html format. There could be some other reason for having a drop in serps have you checked your site for duplicate content issues??

As far as i think you should avoid from duplicate content to stop Google panda effect for your website. Google panda is a software is a software developed by Google to punished the website which have low quality as well as duplicate content. The main purpose of the Google panda is to bring the quality website on the top of search results. So, i suggest you to avoid from duplicate content.
