    Social media acts as a LEVER, not a source of "untapped traffic" (unless you're using one of a few specific strategies). This question really depends on what goal you're trying to accomplish with social media. If you have an IM business, and you simply create a handle on all the different social media sites, it isn't really going to help you generate more traffic or leads.

    However, if you're using social media as a tool to leverage other traffic and multiply it- it can be much more effective.

    The best way to approach targetted audience is through social marketing. No doubt it can be expensive sometimes, but its definitely worth it.

    Well it's the next wave of marketing. Social media is already becoming the best form of marketing now. The viral nature of it make it super easy to get the word out about your business. When used properly, it can bring lifelong customers, frienships, etc. It's all about connecting with your audience. :)
