How to make shadow sleek and layered?

I am using photoshop to make online store design. The secret of shadow just gets me confused. Please help!

 

double click on layer and adjust shadow 100% to 1%

 

hi!

1.dropshadow. adjust the opacity.
2. make a new layer beneath the image.
3. merge the layer with the adjusted shadow image and the the new layer.
4. repeat the procedure until it appears to be layered.
