However, if you are using WP, then install Google sitemaps and your site can be indexed quicker with good content. There are other ways too, submit your articles to Digg, Reddit and your site should get indexed since these are big traffic sites... As for page ranks, link building and good content is the best way to gain high rage ranks!.

As for new website, I suggest you to submit to free directories too. It helps to give some backlinks and traffic too. As for pagerank, you need to get dofollow backlink. Only dofollow backlinks will help you increase pagerank. Search engine and directory submission will not help you much in getting good pagerank. Try to ask anyone that you know to give a link with no rel="nofollow" attribute added. You can check a link or a blog is dofollow or nofollow. Also, learn about the value of your dofollow backlink from pagerank sculpting.
