In their FAQ they state they don't allow adsense, yahoo, chitica and many other kinds of ads.

But anyway I agree with your advice about knowing your competition and about "free" being fairly unbeatable for many people. As I said it's just an experiment and currently it's just an idea to be or not to be implemented. I suppose though, there ought to be a way to leverage the fact that I have my own VPS.

    Cheers

That's a good point and idea. I already have a couple of websites which might earn quite a bit on by selling them, except for the fact that their nature is such it would probably be hard to sell them. There aren't many people that would deal with the topic these sites cover the way I am. And there is a community around them which I believe trust me and wouldn't take kindly to it being sold out.

Which is why I'm thinking of creating a few sites outside of that main network which wouldn't have these traits and wouldn't have obstacles to being sold. :)

    Thanks

I suggests you to go for some real buying and selling stuff. Why dont you try out some digital products?

My bad! I´m using just the script, self-hosted. So you´re right about this.

But think about doing some sites for your hometown businesses; it´ll be simple for you to do this and to mantain the service; you can advertise it by hand (door to door) or in a local newspapper, to get it started.
Also, as you own a server, a hosting company would be some to consider as well; the market is saturated tough.

I currently sell text link ads which probably qualifies as a sort of a digital product or a service. As for other things, well.. gotta come up with something. As I mentioned, I'll probably build some sites which I can build some value on and then sell so..

Well the more I think about that idea the more I like it. I'll consider it. Thanks for suggesting. :)

As for real hosting business, the usual style, that's indeed just way too saturated so I'm thinking these specialized one-to-one services could work better.
