Until several days ago, my site appeared in SERPs by description only. That is, the description that I set using the meta description tag. Recently, Google started to show several words from my content also. How can I determine Google to display only the description? Could be a problem if the description is too short? I want to keep it short (about 10 words)
if you want google to use your description tag, then put a most appropiate description on your tag. thats the best you can do. google checks for relavant description for your pages and diaplay accordingly. that might come from the description tag, or google might incert it on its own
You can do your best to ensure you get the Meta Description as your SERP Description by using the following snippet manipulation technique: To ensure your Meta Description is used as your call to action on SERPs, ensure that it is made up of two sentences with the search-phrase appearing in both. For other search terms, which cannot be given pride of place in your Meta Description, use the following method: - Split the description into two sentences of around 12-13 words each. Aim for around 160 characters and do not exceed 180 characters. - Both sentences should introduce the web site, but in slightly different ways, so they will work together well if Google decides to serve the whole description. - Each sentence should contain one of the top two key-phrases for the page in question. - Ensure that the final paragraph of the body text (directly before the footer in the HTML file) contains a sentence that is (a) less characters the shortest of the two sentences, and (b) containing the key-phrase being targeted. - This sentence should include a call to action and pair well with either of the Meta Description sentences. - Avoid use of this term elsewhere in the body text or you may lose control of the snippet. (These are taken from my own notes so please don't think they're ripped from somewhere due to the way they are worded )
google bot crawl/index the whole content... i think your talking about the snippet result of google... google display the title tag for title. for the description.. google sometimes pick the meta description.. but its up to google which description to display base on your page content.. even if you have a meta description..
Insert the following tag in your HEAD section of the HTML code to stop Google from using the DMOZ description: <meta name=â€ROBOTS†content=â€NOODPâ€> Note that not all search engines may support this meta tag, so check with each for more information. To direct Google specifically from using this information to describe a page, use the following: <META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOODP">
I faced this problem before 2 months ago but It is not problem and not any mistake in your Meta description..Google has changed its strategy. Actually Google checks page title, description, Keywords and also content (from few of months) for fetching the result.
