The advantage of online business is that you can reach everyone in the world who has internet access while the cost is lower than doing business offline.

most people look at initial investment as an advantage of an online business. But it is NOT an advantage at all. Because you can get online for under $50, people do not take it seriously and most fail before they even start.

If you go out and invest a few hundred thousand into a 7-11 or McDonalds, you'll do whatever you have to do to make that business succeed.

    Most fail yes.
Also fail because you need to get your sites customers to trust you. The internet lacks regulation, so there are a lot of fraudsters out there unfortunately.

    The internet lacks regulation? Really?

When you buy from Wal Mart and return the item, if Wal Mart says no to your return for whatever reason, can you as the buyer have their entire business shut down? The answer is no!

On the internet, thats not only possible, it happens all the time.

Especially if you are selling digital products, the buyer basically can hold the seller hostage and get whatever they want.

I really dont understand what you are on about here kennycannon. People set up websites all over and then take money and what not. Its a lot easier to setup a scam over the internet it being remote and faceless. Your comment is redundant. Yes you cant shut walmart down but one can easily go to a consumer regulation authority and start soem sort of proceeding.

Internet fraud is ripe, why do you think? because its easy to get away with. Example, a friend of mine bought a mobile phone from a site in china, and then found out later he got scammed. The guy would just set up a new site every time he got shut down. And nothing anyone could or would bother doing to go after the guy in china.

This is the GENERAL BUSINESS section of the DIGITAL POINT forums. We are not talking about setting up fraudulent websites. We are talking about LEGIT businesses.

When you are talking about LEGIT businesses that are owned and operated by LEGIT business owners, it is a lot easier for the owner to be taken advantage of online as opposed to offline.

If you want to talk about fraudulent sites, I'm sure there are plenty of other places you can go. I don't think this is one of them.

The OP was asking about LEGIT business practices and that is what I was talking about. And what I said is 100% true. The buyer can (and a small percentage do) hold the seller hostage until he gets whatever he wants. You cannot do that offline.

What is wrong with you? I was just commenting that trust is a major issue due to so much fraud on the net, and even if you have a site that is 100% legit it fails because or its difficult for it to take off due to visitors not having trust in it. TRUST IS IMPORTANT if you are selling something, plain and simple!

"If you want to talk about fraudulent sites, I'm sure there are plenty of other places you can go. I don't think this is one of them."

If you want to misread and not understand what people are writing, please go to another forum.

kennycannon and nEquity, I think you two are having at it over the same thing. I have ran typical brick and mortar businesses all my life (and it's been over 66 years) and you both have points to make.

It is very easy in here to take things "literally" that you see in print. I believe you both are saying almost the same things, but reading with emotions instead of just reading...

It is much easier to start up a new venture in here than in the "brick and mortar" world outside the net. However, there are liars and thieves in both business arenas. I have dealt with many people over the years in both places and there are "human beings" in both.

Wherever you have your fellow man, you have a very real possibility of getting screwed. You both sound very passionate and I bet you are both doing quite well in here, huh? Hope so!
