Learn about Marketing. Take a class about Marketing.

Find a market. Making a blog with no plan is not going to make you money. And marketing is about people and behaviors not websites and links to affiliates.

 

You can also sell blogroll links & blogposts if your blog has some PR!

 

The answer to any income from a blog is traffic. But before you focus on this you will need to start with some topic focused content, so you should start on a topic that you can write a lot about and one that leans toward a product that you would like to eventually be able to sell. Start building content, start learning about seo and other traffic techniques and then start learning about monetization.
