How to make cost down?

Hi, all, I'm a little new to the Google Adwords and need practiced advices. Thanks a lot.
I do a couple keywords last week but the Ads effectiveness is not so good as supposed to be. The cost per keyword is higher than average level listed on Google Keywords Tool, even as high as $2.6 per click. That costs too much. But it's been said some guru could do this job pretty good and down the cost even to $0.05 per click. So, is it true? What did I miss?

If you do not target the niche and yet do not target correctly then you will paid for higher than everyone else.
try to use keyword tool to help you up. learn how to choose the keyword with higher search, niche , targeted and relevant.

Thanks, JerrickYeoh I did keyword homework, actually, but sorry the result still not very good. Probably the niche is too competitive? I targeted on the hot tablet niche. Is there any working way to go through this? I mean how to lower cost in sharp competitive field. Thanks.

With high Quality Scores (8-10) you can reach the lowest possible CPC.
Increasing keywords quality score has a whole theory behind it - look for threads in this forum and on the web.
In a nutshell it can be achieved by: reaching high CTRs in your ads, very targeted ad groups, using negative keywords, very relevant landing page.
Still, for many keywords it can appear too expensive, especially when there's high competition.

Triggering the long tail search terms might be a possible solution.
Example: create an ad group with one of your better performing keywords, with modified broad match - i.e.
    +example +keyword

Then add "example keyword" as a negative-phrase ad-group-level negative keyword.
The ad group will then trigger many search terms which contain the words "example" and "keyword" but in a different order, like "keywords examples", "examples of keywords" etc.

Different people use many different variations to search for the same thing.

The cost completely depends on the competition. So if he can do it for 5 cents than it means he is doing a cheaper keyword

You need to reduce the bids and target long tail keywords. Make ad groups and use the keyword tool to find more cheaper keywords. Also you need to target the right audience to reduce your keyword cost.
