How to make a logo using photoshop?

Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by poseidon, Sep 8, 2006.

OK, so I have decided that time has come for me to start making my own logos rather than hiring others :) I have photoshop 6 on my PC. I just want to know is there any easy way to make a simple logo without going through all those image slices and layers ? :) Any pre built method on PS of making logos ?

    Regards

Theres no slicing involved. You cant really get away from layers but they come in extremely useful anyway.
Post more details and il give you a better idea what to do. Believe it or not, Photoshop is really easy to use.

I'm kind of new to photoshop so I am not familiar with older versions of photoshop. I guess you can take the text tool and write some text, then right-click on that layer in the layers panel and select blending options. In the blending options you can add a ton of nice (and not-so-nice) effects, you just have to play around with the values. The ones I usually use are gradient overlay (blending mode: soft light), drop shadow, inner shadow (not too big) and a thin stroke (about 3 px).

You can also use some of the custom shapes that photoshop has installed. Click on the shape tool, then click on the "blob" shape, then click on shape (to view available shapes), click on the small arrow pointing right in the shapes panel and select "All". Now you have about 100 shapes that you can use for you logo, you can color them or even use the same effects you used in your text.

    Hope it helps,

    Daniel

Photoshop is not the ideal software to develop logos.
Vector design software like Illustrator and Coreldraw are the way to go as far as i am concerned.

Yes, vector is always the best way to go especially if you intend to use the logo offline, vector is scalable.

AI is best of course, but photoshop is easier for beginners to learn imo... and it is definitely satisfactory if you plan on keeping the logo for online purposes only

    good luck! :)

I disagree the best programs for logo design in my eyes are Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
I find coreldraw an amateur program although it is easy to use.

well, if you want to learn how to make a logo like most of the "designers" on this website, here are your basic steps:

    1. pirate photoshop.
    2. search google images for images relating to your logo
    3. use a stock font with the site name
    4. compete in every design contest

    its easy! :p

Yes, I agree. Illustrator is best for designing logos and coral draw is also good software for logo designing. Illustrator is the mixture of coral draw and photoshop.

I HIGHLY agree with people saying to use illustrator as most techniques used in photoshop can be done in illustrator. Also illustrator being vector based the logo can then be resized with no loss of quality.
