    You must create a verified Google Plus business page for the business and implement the Publisher code on the website.

    You don't need to have a verified page, but you do need to have a properly set up page, including the correct link connections. Publisher is nice but not as relevant at author links.

    Having enough followers and good content which is interacted with will rank your further up easily. Then again it will be worth the question if the G+ page appearing next to the brand name is really relevant - it probably also may crash with the SEO activities of that brand, I would check that first.
