Work hard. Work wisely. Find a niche that you enjoy and focus on that. You are best working in an area where you have an interest/expertise.

As you are talking about the online business:

First have a good Website. This is the most important thing for you. This is the gate to business, open it please (its good if you having one already).

Find as much media as you can to broadcast your goods or service. Find online and offline ways to promote your business..

Know all the Laws and regulations in your business range, they help you a lot when you face problems.

Choose a good producs that you are very familiar with. Alwasy sell good products.. one negetiv remark can cost you alot..

Finally for online business , online promotion is the key factor..

I would say a lot of success comes from your mindset:

    - Perseverance (never giving up, even though it may seem like you're failing)
    - Being strategic
    - Planning and organizing
    - Knowing how to manage one's schedule and work
    - Getting things done
    - NOT losing motivation
    - Having confidence
    - Thinking outside of the box

To be successful at business you have to have the right mindset. If you don't have a business mindset; a mindset that is set on success, you will never be successful at any business. The one book that helped me with this, and I think has really changed my life is called secrets of the millionaire mind by t. harv eker.

Remember that an online business really is a business. You will need to have a tax ID number, a way to track your costs and revenues, business cards and forms, and so on and so forth.

treesearcher hit it on the head.

You need to treat your internet business as a BUSINESS! Not a hobby.

Along with that, I don't suggest "following your passion" until you already have a sustainable income.

Look for a profitable niche. Offer an excellent product at a fair price. Rinse Repeat.

Clearly you will have to do a lot of research. Like anything else you need to get an education before you can expect real results.

    No. Not always
The most successful web giants pay 80K-150K USD annually to their developers. E.g. Google earn 300K USD per staff anually. So they still make profit.

We all know that best of best of best staffs of the world of web sector work either in Google, MSN or Yahoo.

So sometimes, working with the best makes you best and profitable.

I'm in Turkey, like other developing countries in Turkey business owners try to become rich paying less to the staff. This is a very big fault...trying to become rich by paying %10 of the profit to the workers.

And this fault is mostly seen in developing countries like my country (which always has been a "developing country") like Taiwan, Indonesia, Brazil or Argentina. These countries will never be either poor or rich countries.

The greatest reason is in the end my country always loose its best staff to developed countries.

That's why I want Turkey to join EU. That day, the companies here will be competing directly with EU companies and face with their high salaries. If they offer less to workers, those workers will easily travel to an EU country without waiting a Visa.

That's why, highest salaries are in EU and USA. Because options and area is so big...so the business owners compete to get the best staffs. That's the way it's gotta be.

Their costs are still low in relation to their revenue.

    Therefore I am correct.

In addition to what has been said above, you also need persistence - if you have a good idea, stick with it. It takes time to grow a successful business!

Find a business you are passionate about, something you are interested in and believe in. If you don't like what you are associated with it will flow thru to your customers and they will not buy from you.

The opposite is true. If you love your products or business, people will buy from you because YOU love it.
