    Forget wordpress. Let's say I want to create my own site with similar features as a blog. I'm currently a Computer Science major and know how to start and work on a project. Except I want to know how much time would it take me to complete such a thing.

    I currently know
    C++
    HTML/XHTML/CSS

    I've glanced at
    PHP/MYSQL

    In other words, I just need to learn the syntax. I know how far I can go with each language and am interested to know if this is worth it or not?

    Anyways, what is Ajax? Haven't looked at it yet but am planning to.

    Would appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

    You'll need to know PHP/MySQL in a big way. Get real familiar with that and then it shouldn't take you too long, perhaps a few days to a few weeks.

    Currently taking 19 units but I still manage to find time and still do good. Once summer arrives, I don't think I would be too busy. I would like to have this as a project. Just want to know some things before I start. Need some good tips.

    Even wordpress creator himself have to put doorways to his site to make some profit, so it is not worth it. Web programming can be a challenge for someone with C++ background, unless you don't care about hackers and heavy loads (like wordpress guy). PHP is much more pleasant to use than C++ because it is relatively type-reluctant, but general paradigm is different for web applications.

    I'm not really looking into the profit as this is some project I want to start with. Maybe later on I wish to do so but not for now. This is something just for personal interest, for experience. A project off to the side you know?

    I suggest getting a hold of CodeIgniter which is a PHP Framework.

    The CodeIgniter website has a couple of Videos regarding using it to set up a simple blog.

    It is heavily documented which is a plus. There is a good support forum etc....

    And please, I'm not wanting to get into any "Whats the best Framework" wars with anyone.
