I'm not selling anything here - just to let you know Basically, I've noticed that on these forums, the typical business would be "get traffic & ads", "internet marketing something", "selling links", "selling websites", "selling ebooks". I've gathered some video game sales statistics, with exact details what these guys did, and how they did it. The latest addition is Gish $121,000 sales stats. Three guys spent 6 months months developing it (and then another additional 6 months for one guy to promote it daily), and it's a good result (as they have other games they sell) for a self-published video game title. Similarly there's $113,160.53 combined sales (of 5 different games, spread accros several years), and again that's a fine result. So those wondering "how to earn bucks online", might consider selling games. Not necessarily developing them, but to sell them. Over and out. and for the record: I wasn't involved in making these games.
Good post, I was telling my girlfriend earlier the key to making money online is ...... to work your ass off !
Selling your own product gets you the most $$ IMO, and the product has to be intersting and useful so lots of people buy it.
The plugin comes with these release noted: Plugin Name: Related Posts Plugin URI: http://www.w-a-s-a-b-i.com/archives/2006/02/02/wordpress-related-entries-20/ Description: Returns a list of the related entries based on active/passive keyword matches. BUT... since the plugin has been free to use, I presume it's no harm if I put it online for you to download. I uploaded it here: www.gameproducer.net/downloads/related-posts.zip (in case you want to check it out)
Looks like that was over a period of about 3 years, and split between 3 people. At a per year, per person salary, that would be $13444.44 / year. Not very impressive imo. I'm sure they had fun with it though.
Hey Game producer, good idea, games are an excellent income if sold properly. Btw, on your website, I have noticed that you don’t have any google adsense ads. Is this true or am I missing the pages?
Depends how much time they spent on this. To rely on this would be crazy cause it sounds a lot, $121k , wow, but after deeper reading nothing to even brag about. Sorry for being pesimistic
It may not be much money but I'll bet it was tons of fun. =) And they can always sell more as it becomes more and more popular.
sweet money. too bad they made only $40,000 - expenses in couple of years. end up being that a job at mcdonalds is better.
Yep, some games can sell pretty nicely. Like Mystic Inn that sold 2000 copies in the first three days (after launch), that's neat $40,000 (made in just 3 days) - and it was one of the best selling games for that portal. I tried google ads long time ago... didn't like them. Now I do reviews, text link ads and sell "Insiders" service (plus some affiliate stuff now and then) to generate revenue. (Details here and some posts about this) Yes, if you take "yearly salary" perspective, then that would be correct. But if you take "time spent versus time earned", then you get $165 per day (24 months they spent on the game), and even if you take costs away - it's still pretty good. Besides - these guys got to do what they love, so in my eyes that's simply great These guys did other games (and those who bought Gish, would also buy those other games - so this figure doesn't give you the full truth). They have close to 10 games that they sell right now. Besides... for countries where living costs are low, these kind of sums would be extremely good. And think about being a publisher: all you need would be to sell the game, and that's it... By all means there was nothing to "brag about" - this was simply given as encouragement, that there are alternative ways to generate revenue in the net. For this Gish game, the sales are declinining, but as they bring more games (doing what they love) and getting customer base that's buying more than just one game & giving them bucks - what else can you ask? ¨
It happens that I am in the casual game industry these days and I read your site from time to time. You are the one that makes all the posts on it, right? Anyway, it is nice to meet you here, never expected this... Egomancer
