You could try to edit it using some software such as the DivX bundle, or you can WinRar/Winzip the file. Maybe the three websites below might help. Good luck.

    Yup. Windows movie maker.

Click Start->All Programs->Windows movie Maker->Import Video->File->Save Movie File. Then you can choose what type of compression you want. :)

    Hope this helps. :)

You need a video encoding software to compress the video. I would recommend that you compress to MPEG4 H.264 or FLV if you are planning to use it for the web.

I just found SUPER Video Encoder which is a nice free software that has similar features to $500+ encoding software. Here is a link to a review on my site that also has some demo encodes you can watch.

Also, there are some tips and tricks for how to get the best looking video and also how to put it on your website.

if you have a Mac, check out "Stomp" by shinywhitebox. it's unreal. It can compress half-size, lossless, H264, heck too many to mention here. Plus it includes some great filters and effects.

WinMEnc beta, or WisMenCoder may be useful to down size the avi file.

I'd suggest using a freeware program from the doom9 forums :) they always have the best tools when it comes to helping in converting or lowering down the size of pretty much all media files.
