how to let the site lengthen and get smaller depending on content? help

    if i have a main navigation bar at the top and then a nice image for the footer and I have text that could lengthen and shorten. What would be the best way to make this work and keep everything simple.

    Assuming you have a tableless layout, search for "elastic layouts" or "fluid layouts". Here's one site
