Great tips, but i prefer to stay simple and relevant. That's way, you can have relevant traffic from the blog, and if you just looking for a backlink, than instead of wasting time on thinking something that fullfills all the above mentioned criterias, simply add your link to a web directory.

These tips are really great.. but before comment on any blog post we should read the post carefully. Otherwise we cant comment on that particular post properly. If we commented without reading the post then author can understand it. Always try to end your comment with appreciation not at the beginning of the comment.

I've found that just being really engaged in the content of the post usually generates a response. A compliment or question can come from just reading one line of the post but if you just give a comprehensive response (challenge or not), generally the poster is going to appreciate that more, and take the time to respond more often, than if you just have a question or comment that doesn't show you engaged with the whole article.

I delete most comments that contain urls. Why bother inserting urls when your name counts as a link anyway?

Great point. I wasn't sure about this. However, how do get 'anchor text' from the name link?

I think that's a great guide. I'm sure by applying them, the owner won't say no to it. Usually I took the effort to read through everything in details so that I post comments relevant to it.

Um, OK, I'm not sure whether I understand this question about anchor text.. But can't you just put your anchor text in the name field, instead of your nickname, if there's a "your website" field beside the "name" one on a blog as well?

    I normally use methods #1 & #2.
Great tips and information. People that try to automate the comment process or speed it up usually lose out because their attempts are obvious and don't improve the author's site so they don't get approved. Its all a trade off, if you want a link, then improve their site by asking about pertinent information or providing a well thought out comment yourself.

Yes you can. But most blog owner will delete or modified if they see keyword in the name field.

I really dont differentiate on dofollow blogs or no follow blogs, I feel that you like/hate a post, then you should really post a comment to let that know regardless of the characteristics it posses. Just my ethics and stuff.

Good tips but it basically boils down to read the post and leave a comment that has something to do with the post. I moderate all comments and if they contain URLs, I delete them right away. If they say stuff like thank you or interesting post or other generic useless comments, I delete those too. I have no problem giving a link back in the name as long as they bother to read and comment about the content of the article.

hint: My recent blog spot is a do follow blog. ;)
