    Find a script you want to use (usually people go with WordPress), then slowly start changing files in that to make your own theme. Eventually you'll find out you've learnt HTML and can use the same method to progress with PHP.

    Download StumbleUpon tool bar and choose your topic, in this case you'll want to choose "Web Design where it wills send you lots of web design related sites which has lots of tutorials and other great info sites.
