How to launch a new blog - Advice & Tips

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by CCK, Oct 27, 2008.

I am looking to launch a new blog for a business advice website. The blog is part of an existing business website that is about 6 months old. The blog has its own section.

What is the best way to promote, market, launch this new blog. What websites should it be submitted to? How should I tell the world about this new business blog? Who will care?

I am relatively new to blogs so any advice would be welcome. Hopefully this thread will benefit other people in my situation.

    1. Get Your atleast 15-20 articles or your content ready and post them.
    2. Once it well constructed and ready to go, submit it to google and other search engines as well as submit you sitemaps.

    3. Start Using Social bookmarking to spread some words about your new websites, and comment on related blogs, so people will know about it.

    4. Make decent and quality backlinks for PR and SERPS.
    5. regularly Update your websites, like post once a week for sure.
    6. Build Organic traffic from search engines and direct traffic as well.

Follow all these, with time you'll know what to do next. Hope my advices would help you.:)

Give some useful advice and tips, day by day, people will know your website that can really help them, then they will introduce it to their friends.
    Good luck, any way:)

I want to bring another perspective to the topic.

    1. If you are starting a new blog, naming is critical. Are you branding yourself, your business, your product? You should know the purpose of your blog that you can name it.
    2. Tag line following the name of your blog:
    * Who is the blog for
    * Who you are, your name and your expertise
    * What are the benefits for your readers
    3. A customized banner:
    * Ties in with your brand, your website or logo
    * With your colors
    * Extends the look and feel that represents you, your values
    4. Get support from other bloggers. Ask them or pay them to write honest reviews about your products.

We can talk about further details anytime, here is my skype id: merkal2005

    Wish you all the best!

As Oranges suggested you should start with atleast 15 articles and submit the blog to all major search engines. When it comes to marketing you should submit your blog to places like Entrecard.com,Blogcatalog.com and Mybloglog. You can also try to submit your blog posts to major social bookmarking sites like stumbleupon, digg and propeller.

Your blog is part of an existing business; this is a good advantage you have right from the get-go! :)

Forget about directory submissions, they are almost useless and have been for the past year. It's a waste of time, to put it simply.

As you're adding this to an existing business, you could have some success with a press release. Use a site like PRWeb to send this out and also email related blogs in your niche to let them know about your fantastic new blog; you may just land a couple of links from them!

If you really want to get noticed, the quickest and most effective way is to go viral with a couple of posts; write a post which can capture the attention of your niche, and push it as hard as you can to related blogs and social sites like StumbleUpon, Reddit and Digg. It's doing stuff like this which will get you natural links, which is what will help your search engine rankings most.

There are a lot of things you could do, and there are some other reasonable suggestions in this thread... But stop reading and start doing! :)

Like LoveProfit just said, some foundation blogposts that people want to link back to is always a good one, then promoting them on the social networking sites. :D

SocialMarker should have everything you need if you want to submit to social bookmarking sites; socialmarker.com :) Also, if you visit our website (see below) and sign up for our mailing list, we're going to send out a free eBook on some creative marketing techniques within the next week or so. :)

Here's a great way. Market the blog under all relavent keyword searches you think would happen for that Blog. You'd market under: 1) All the video sharing social networks. ie: youtube.com 2) you'd market under all the social networks ie: myspace.com, facebook.com . It's free marketing and I did this with my site and I got a lot of instant traffic. It's permanent traffic, it's viral, and it's free.

Try to make it unique or more specific, eye-catching, lots of websites/blogs give business advices, attract visitors through promoting/marketing by making your website look like it is offering something new, inovative, improved.
