I think we can know by looking for the https on the payment page, if a website has it, that means it's not a scam site.

I don't mean about the payment, I mean about the whole thing, there are several sites providing fake products, and some get more money, and some get your credit card and do every month withdrawal from your credit card.

    What products are you buying?

I generally only buy from unfamiliar places that also have a brick and mortar store (even if it's overseas). Just look at their site, Google them, etc etc..

You can also pay with a virtual VISA like www.entropay.com, without having to give out your 'real' credit card number.

I think there is no way to know.

Even if a user has alot of itrader, they may be a scammer too, that's what I notice at here.

You can't know it ! The best way to buy from these sites is via CC, so you could do an instant chargeback in case if there are any problems !

    I don't think so.
I suggest searching "their name + scam" on google to review comment from others .

That's what I do, and by taking this step I've found that a lot of Internet offers that looked too good to be true in the first place really were bogus.

Usually it is you get what you paid for.

You should never pay upfront for a service.

I get paid only after I have shown adequate proof that I got the job done.

Well, on DP, you can study iTrader feedback (not just the number, but the actual comments, to see if they have a track record with what you are buying, and the status of the members who have traded with them.)

As previously suggested, the search function and looking at posting history helps.

Not paying upfront isn't always an option, but partial payments on large purchases insulates against huge losses and is usually negotiable. Retain all email correspondence to document the agreements and promise exchanged.

If you still can't decide, suggest an IM chat and ask whatever questions are relevant. Ask for proof of any claims.

Any advice beyond this would depend on the specific product or service.

I have a site where I sell downloads of digital products and I don't have a merchant service set up (always thought it was too hard to do) so I only accept verified PayPal transactions or cc's through paypal only. I am probably losing sales because of not offering more ways to pay but I don't have to worry this way and neither do the customers. but when I "buy" on the internet, which is all of the time these days I also almost always use paypal to make purchases. I have never been scammed. I have bought things from dead or abandoned sites and had to file a claim to get my money back though. I bought something the other day called "contact spyder" from a website for $49.99 and never got the product. Still waiting on the claim to be settled through paypal. I don't worry about it because I know PayPal will reverse the charge for me. I would rather have had the product but the guy that owns the site won't return my emails. Anyways. I never look at website security or anything when I buy. I just google what I am looking for and then I find the lowest price on it... I'm done ranting.. :)

There are plenty forums where you can find online store reviews. If some site is scamming, there is good chance to find about it, before you get scammed.

You can use Scam Search for you to know if the site is a reliable site or not.
