nice idea but to do that the first thing would to make webmsters to stop using adsense. If adsense stops no more accounts on adwords and if that happens no more making og google better and if that happens some other search engine beats google anf if that happens google gives up :D

Well I am not sure why google is so far ahead of yahoo, I think yahoo has a lot of great features and also a good search engine.

Congratulations, you're one of the 12% of the population that still thinks so.

The reason that "Google" became the norm was how they put it into the vernacular.

the verb "to Google" has been added to most dictionaries as a verb meaning "to search on the Internet".

like "Kleenex," they got that very lucky break, in movies & TV, and the rest is history!

you could also argue that the media have helped google, not only with the infamous uses of "google it" (already pointed out) but also - can anyone find a reputable news agency/platform that has published anything remotely bad about google? - You could argue that you have to do wrong to be put in a bad light, but if they can poke fun at a woman with a wooden leg, they can surely ridicule a multi billion dollar company.. I think if the credit crunch can't stop google, nothing can. Until the internet, or computers, undergo as bigger change as the introduction of CSS did back in the day, there is nothing that can, or will, be done that can seriously dent googles reputation, profits or popularity

What is the alternative to adsense?

Give me adsense equivalent without the godgle brand on it and I would switch just out of accumulated annoyance with what google is. As would many on this thread AFAICS.

Create adsense equivalent with a "fairer" more open system where have a agreement that you get a known fixed % of ad income and everyone would have a very god reason to switch. This system where google takes whatever they want and keeps it secret is bizarre if viewed from any other part of the buisiness world.

I think Google could fall if they do not change as the net changes. Many big company's i.e. Sears,Kmart, etc. all thought they did not need to change as they held the Crown in there Niche. Now look at them in danger of going out of business every day that passes. Just my 2 cents.....

the only way to kill them is to spend $$$

If a search engine give 1$ per search....then

So Microsoft can,but by the time they beats google, their bank account will be empty

Dropping a nuclear bomb over the Big G won't do.
They have backups of their datacenters in India, China, and all other African and Asian countries.

Wow this thread has grown huge !!

The term "Google It" is just branding .... Google pay movie producers and T.V shows to say it in their productions. Just like MySpace, Craigslist, eBay and Facebook brand their websites - within the media.

Google does have some good features and some bad, Adsense sucks ass, but the search engine is good, the tools are also good and tend to have a link to the search engine, they do so well because they reach everyone, they reach the normal day surfer, then they sell the tools to webmasters - who else is there to cover ?

Google wont die as such, competitors will come and go that's for sure and they always have, but will Google have a strong hold forever ? No not always .... but they will always be there.

Google has a weakness and that's the internal staff and structure, no doubt insiders already have some dirt, it's only a matter of time before staff take advantage of Google and that's who can bring it down - it only takes several crooked employees to sink them and I believe that's the only possible way of killing Google.
