When you have High PR it will be easier to rank for any keyword in any page using only on page factors

When you don't you need to get links from other sites that are also high in PR

in the end Rank makes all the difference

Well since you have asked this question, members of this forum have suggested ways of keeping Page Rank intact. The green bar is a representation of the importance of a web page on the web or so they say. However, the actual Page Rank may be very different to the one that shows on your tool bar (depends on the quality of your back links). Since Page rank does not have a direct bearing on the search engine listings, the hype surrounding it amazes me.

why're yo so concerned about PR? how's is your site doing in Google? is it found for your optimized keywords? I know PR is important but it doesn't mean that your site will be listed higher in the search results for your keyword related searches. so concentrate on improving and optimizing your site content and gradually build quality reverse link.

The page rank of your site mostly depends on the number of back links. It's better if you have back links from quality sites. A steady increase in back links will ensure a good page rank. Updating your site regularly also gives a good impression to the search engines. Some of the best processes to increase back links are directory submission, social bookmarking and blog commenting.

Just continue getting backlinks from authority sites that are related to your niche to maintain or increase your page rank.

Hi! You can improve your page rank and keyword position by getting related content links , Blogs links (having most importance to increase backward links).

I agree that backlinks are what matter in terms of Page Rank. Still, you should be focusing on real SEO and let PR come when it comes. PR is only visible to you after 3 months or so when Google pushes it. It could vary widely from what you are seeing in the mean time.

How do you know? I thought Google liked unique content.

If someone continued to build quality backlinks at the expense of content, is the pr likely to increase?

They do, but rankings are not Pagerank and pagerank is not rankings

Yes, you can get PR on a empty page if it has backlinks.

    Question for all:

If I add 100 quality pages to my site, does this increase the page rank?

No, and without backlinks it's doubtful they would even get indexed.

There seems to be a popular misconception that adding a load of pages to a site will increase it's pagerank.

That's rubbish. Pagerank is entirely depandant on the pagerank of the pages that link to your content.

Where good content does help is encouraging people to link to your pages for no other reason than it's good stuff - that's where content = king.

For PR backlinks = king. Remember though that PR is a small part of the actual ranking algorithim, PR does not equal rankings or traffic.

Here's a question to ask yourself,

What is the PR of the page at www.google.com?

How much content does that page have?

How many great high PR links does that page have?

You probably didn't drop that much. Google rounds pagerank, so you were probably right on the edge.
