I have written an ebook. Would like to publish it on free ebook directory. But before submit my ebook do I need to reserve rights? If need how can I do that? How to keep rights for an ebook?
Your publisher (should you ultimatly decide to use one) should be able to provide you with gaurantees in so far as protecting your electronic work. They should be able to explain to you how it is to be done. Contact a writers guild if you require more info on rights to electronic books.
Actually I have made a PDF from microsoft word doccument about money making tips. So what should I do now to keep rights?
My answer may not be helpful to you but....I have a friend who decided to allow Octopus Publishing to handle everything. She received 15% net in royalties. It sold well and then they renegotiated the contract and now she receives 25%. They provide all the protection she needs as to rights. You could always just send them an e-mail and see what they say. Good luck to you with this.
Entering the free ebook market and expecting to maintain your rights are probably not complimentary activities. From what I've seen, people simply take the ebook, edit it a bit and try to rebrand it to their own benefit. There was a while where ebooks were considered one of the top ways to market and brand yourself while building a mailing list. Many claim it works well. Unfortunately, they have also found their work on free ebook download sites rebranded for the site making their book available. It sounds like Spoiltdiva has more experience in this than I do. I'm just talking from the point of view of someone who has seen several versions of the same exact materials where it was obvious the work was stolen and repurposed. I would strongly urge you to go through your book and work on embedding references to you, your company name and even work on mixing up the order of the text to fight someone simply using Find/Replace. If you are truly worried about protecting your copyrights, research the laws of your country about registering your work. While that won't guarantee that someone will steal you work, it at least makes it easier for you to prove it is yours.
Is there any online service provider that they can help me to keep copyright for my work? That mean I would like to keep the prove that the work is mine, and anytime I will be able to prove it@
As far as "proof" goes, investigate your country's copyright laws. Most countries have a registration process whereby you can legally establish your ownership of the work. While that won't guarantee no one will steal your work it establishes the timeline of your publication, your ownership and makes it easier for you to sue someone for infringement.
Put on first page Copyright notice usually it's enough... I have autoweblaws.com it's not cheap but updates you and provide all copyright information you need to use anywhere online, websites, ebooks, emails, blogs, etc.
As far as how to establish copyright goes... that would depend on your country. Establishing Copyright I've heard that in some countries you can register your work. I don't know much about this, considering that copyright is automatic in my country and no registration is required. You don't even need to add the copyright symbol to establish that the work is under copyright. But, I don't know what the copyright stance is like in other countries. But one thing is clear. You're the copyright holder. Rights Granted Others aren't entitled to any rights over your eBook, other than those that you give them. For example, part of the agreement that you made with the free eBook directory may be to allow others to download your eBook from their site, for free and for personal use. So, if people download your eBook for free, then it's fine because you granted them that right, when you submitted it to the free eBook directory. But, if someone then takes your eBook, alters it and tries to pass it off as their own, then they are infringing on your copyright. Since they're infringing on your copyright, you'd pursue whatever action someone would normally take, when their copyright is being infringed. For example, you could contact them and tell them to stop stealing your content and remove the offending content... or whatever the appropriate legal action would be. It's Your Copyright It's your copyright. So, when someone is using your copyrighted work in a way that you did not give them permission for, they are at fault. If they're stealing your eBook and passing it off as their own, they're most likely aware that they aren't allowed to do this. Yet, they're still doing this. So, I doubt that putting a copyright notice in the eBook will prevent theft altogether. I'm not saying don't add a copyright notice. Add it. I'm just saying that if someone is intent on stealing your eBook, the copyright note in the eBook is unlikely to stop them. So I don't think it's so much as what you can do to prevent it. I think it's more about detecting instances of your copyright infringement, and then reacting. Do what you can to make it clear that you hold copyright. But, just know that that may not be enough to prevent instances of copyright infringement. I think the important point is, that since you are the copyright holder, you have the ability to stop people from infringing on your copyright. In other words, if someone is infringing on your copyright, you can do something about it.
