Hey all, I launched a site on Wednesday and it got mentioned on a morning radio show on Friday. In fact, the hosts talked about it for 2:30. Nice free advertising, huh? Needless to say, my traffic spiked pretty good that day. Saturday and Sunday traffic has been light, though, probably due to the NFL playoffs. How do I MAINTAIN momentum? Clearly, I don't want this to be a flash in the pan. I'm sending out an email to ~1,000 people that know me tomorrow morning. These people are on a mailing list of mine. It's a quality list and not even close to being spam. I'm also emailing other radio DJs (kinda spamish, yes) and letting them know that XYZ station mentioned it, so maybe they should too. Any other ideas? The site is http://www.ABCDList.Net
Takes time and patience, plus interesting new content updated on a regular basis. I am about to start some campaign for a site that I am trying out to see if there is any interest. Feel free to post your site at the signature below. Good luck! Rich
Did you call up the radio station to ask them where they heard of your site, and why they have decided to talk about it? Getting info like this may be good to use if you ever decide to hit up radio stations. What all did they talk about??? Yes, redesign the site. Sorry.
I think it's more about fun and content than a flashy site. Look at hotornot.com. It hasn't changed since the beginning and it's nothing special to look at. Yet, 13 billion votes later, it's still popular and fun. We're adding some really cool stuff over the next week including graphs/charts and a forum. The site was emailed to them *cough*. They talked it up as a FUN site for 2min 30sec+ on air.
Maybe I could do a design competition? What do you think about that? Winner gets AdSense placements for X months for the winning design or something like that? I don't have the resources to spend money on the site. The only money I've spent so far is for GoDaddy hosting.

GoDaddy hosting is a tad on the expensive side, FYI. But whatever works for you... You design competition idea would be great. I would most likely participate in it.
