I have had this laptop for a year and it has been a while seen I thought of a replacement, so far so good here, though when I can I use the AC over battery power.

    Here's a link: Laptop Battery

Yes, try to remove the battery while on mains power or the constant recharging will reduce its life.

Is it an HP laptop? I had trouble with my battery and it was the first sign listed in the factory's extended warranty for known problems with certain models. By the time I found the information on it, because my whole laptop had screwed up at this point, I was one month out of the warranty period at 25 months of owning it. Of course had I registered it with HP from the beginning, I would have gotten the announcement about it and been able to get it all fixed for free. (That is if I would have opened and read the email from them which is highly unlikely)

Go to battery or power option using control panel. Set to correct option to get more battery life.

Read the label, find out if it's NiMH, LiPo/Li-ion, or NiCd, then search Google.

Just because it's in a laptop doesn't make it special :)
Your laptop most likely has an LiPo/Li-ion - so keep it charged, do your best to never let it drop below about 25% charge, and NEVER EVER store it for more than a month (or 2) without charging it.

I fly RC planes and have to babysit NiMH and LiPos all fkn day :p
Once you know how they like to be fed, it's pretty easy to take care of them.

I know when you remove the battery, do not place it in concrete floors. Instead place it in a wooden surface.

Set your laptop screen brightness as low as possible for longer life of your battery.

Are you kidding? ... Have you even seen a Li-ion/LiPo go up in flames? (do a YouTube search)

I keep all my LiPo batteries in a fire proof bag > in a metal filing cabinet.

the only way to increase ur laptops or any other chargeable battery life is to use the battery and than charge it.
for laptops, always run ur machine and charge it when its critical. that's authenticated and recommended by manufacturers.
have seen people using the same battery for 3-4+ years.

When you work at home, remove the battery and always use the adapter.

This may increase your battery span.
