Hello I need to speed up my website to be faster because of search engines. Now i need to somebody can explain to me how to install G-zip compression on my VPS. CentOS Thanks
Sorta strange it would not be on at all but if you have cpanel you can click optimize website which will activate it on an account by account basis or you need to recompile apache with easy apache which is located in WHM. You can typically do this with htaccess as well but depends on the apache build. Hope that helps, Nigel
Hi Nigel I am not using CPanel. I am using simple control panel for VPS. Can you post here what i must put in htaccess file? Thanks
Give this a whirl.. http://salscode.com/tutorials/2009/10/15/gzip-htaccess/ and let me know what happens. if you are having speed issues there are probably a range of things you should do. Nigel
I would find a new host if that is the case. Or you can simply run with a reseller account with someone. Gzip should basically be on already. Nigel
I don't agree with Nigel. It depends on hosting package, for example, you may buy cheap VPS, but if you need to install something - please pay. Or you can buy not so cheap VPS, but techs will install any software what you need for free. If you have root access, than it's not hard to enable Gzip on any other software, on the Internet you can find so many instruction to do that.
