Instead of clogging up your system fonts directory, you should use something like Extensis Suitcase. You can enable and disable fonts by double clicking them.
Program Files / Common Files / Adobe / Fonts Adobe has a separate fonts folder it can read from incase you dont want them system wide
Simply add the font to your fonts file located at control panel and it will automatically show-up on your photoshop.
Exactly. And also note that you should copy the fonts to their specific folders when Photoshop is not open. Otherwise they will not show in Photoshop until you re-start it. And I recently published a post on my blog about Christmas Fonts, you might find them useful
I have CS3 and i can drop fonts into my windows folder with ps open and still use them w/o restarting the program.
My fave free font sites are DaFont and Urban Fonts. Lots of great stuff, good system to see font before you download and well categorized!
this is what you really should keep in mind if you are planning to use more then 50 new fonts because it will slow your systeme down extensis is a pretty cool tool but it's not for free if I remember rightly
a little trick i have picked up over the years, if you copy/paste your font into the system font folder, usually c:\windows\fonts\, you can get your fonts loaded into photoshop without restarting the application by opening a couple fonts ( double clicking ) in the system folder itself. i usually open the one i added and 1 or two more just to be sure. anyways, after you open then im the windows font viewer, they will be available inside of photoshop to use. of course i would definitely recommend a font manager if possible. not only will they save you from unwanted system lag, but your system folder won't be cluttered with retarded fonts and you can remove them any time at the click of a button.
Unzip the files you have downloaded, then : Windows Vista : Right-click on the font files > "Install" Windows XP : Put the font files into C:\Windows\Fonts Mac OS X : Double-click the font file > "Install font" button.
