i just aquired a .info domain from godaddy... no hosting. I want to host my own domain and install a wordpress script. I'm really new at this so feel free make fun
Well, I'm sure not going to make fun of you. We all start at the same place after all. You haven't said what you intend to do with your blog, so I'm going to assume you want to make money, therefore: 1) Keep your .info, but buy a .com - with your main keyword in the domain name somewhere. ie BestSomething.com 2) Get hosting - Hostgator has a 'baby' account for less than $5 a month if I remember right. 3) Hostgator includes something called Fantastico that will install your blog for you. 4) Grab a good course on blogging, and a good set of online tools to track your results. Good luck with it!
pancakes, no matter what you're going to do with your blog, two of the most important things are: 1) Reliability - hostgator gives a 99% up time guarantee - I've never had to call on it in four years. 2) Great customer service - hostgator provides a 24/7/365 *live* customer service. And at about 4 bucks a month, why would you want to risk it anywhere else?
I have to agree on hostgator.com for hosting. I pay them $25 a month for a reseller account, and sell accounts on my hosting for $4 a month. They have all the same features as their baby accounts, except I only allow up to 10 domains. Also, the baby account is actually $9.95 a month or $7.95 a month if you pay 3 years in advance. What AllenJames is probably thinking about is the hatchling account. It only allows 1 domain, and it's $8.95 a month if you pay monthly. The $4.95 price is if you pay for 3 years in advance, that's almost $180. I set mine up through Paypal and it just automatically charges every 30 days, you can cancel anytime through your Paypal account. I also install SEO optimized WP blogs for $20. Fantastico is quick and easy, but just installs a very basic blog. I install all the SEO plugins and optimize for up to 5 keywords. I can add adsense ads too, if you want, or just set up for future CPA ads or whatever ads you want.
Pancakes-- do you have a server you can do your own hosting on? If not make sure you sign with a host that offers PHP, Linux and at least one MySQL database. Many web hosts offer cpanel and Fantastico which allows automatic installtion of WordPress. I offer this type of hosting. Q...
