    what you shouldn't do is apply with a site that is already violating adsense's tos. Other than that, don't apply with a crappy site/blog. That's it.

    Populate your site with some decent content and then apply for an account.
    Don't apply for an account if you have recently started a blog and don't have enough content on it.

    I agree. I too have my account approved in two days. I think they key is having a unique content with good keyword(s).

    to increase the chance of getting a adsense account do following.
    1.write at least 100 pages of good content although 70-80 pages will do but 100 is better.
    2.add a sitemap.
    3.use a clear design and sleek navigation.

    A quality website is must. You must have unique content. Also you can try some link building for your website before you apply for Adsense. This will increase the quality of your website.

    Its really simple to get an account. Just have a resonable looking website with some content, that is working and you'll get an account.
